Curriculum (KS1/KS2)

Key Stage 1

A broad and well balanced curriculum is clearly defined and carefully structured.  By creating an enjoyable and effective learning experience in all primary subject areas, we offer each pupil the opportunity to acquire knowledge and understanding appropriate to individual needs.

A range of experiences is offered in the first three years of the school.  Kindergarten (Reception) children follow the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum with most pupils exceeding the Early Learning Goals by the time they reach their fifth birthday.  Throughout Transition (Year 1) and Preparatory (Year 2), the curriculum offers progressive challenges. The children are taught in well-resourced classrooms by fully qualified teachers with the help of a classroom assistant.  Specialist teachers are responsible for Modern Foreign Languages, Music, P.E., and Games.

Music has a high profile in school, essential for the creative development of our pupils.  The infants perform together during the year as singers and percussionists at concerts, recitals and services.

At the end of the day, the children can go to tea followed by a wide range of after school club activities.

With a warm and friendly family atmosphere we encourage parents to work closely with us to ensure pupils are happy, settled and able to enjoy all aspects of school life.

Key Stage 2

We take great pride in the all-round development of the individual child, offering a broad and progressively challenging curriculum across Key Stage 2.

A seamless curriculum is in place across Junior 3, Junior 4 and 1st and 2nd Form ensuring progression between both phases of the School.

Children benefit from dedicated, timetabled lessons in French, Spanish, Art, Science, Music, P. E. and Games, Design Technology and Drama with many subjects being taught by specialist teachers.

A spacious state of the art Learning Resources Centre provides networked computer access.   Computer stations enable pupils to enjoy class ICT lessons as well as to work and research independently. In addition, the well-stocked library shelves enable pupils to expand their knowledge using traditional methods within a multi-media environment.

Children are given a range of opportunities to develop their musical talents.  Junior Choir along with instrument ensembles and various soloists are given the opportunity to perform regularly, both in and out of school.

Parental Involvement

It is in a child's best interests if parents keep in close touch with us, contacting the class teacher immediately should there be a difficulty or a query arises.

Parents are welcome to look at their child's work in the classroom and strongly urged to support with homework.  Parents are expected to provide a suitable working atmosphere at home as well as ensure their child spends the appropriate amount of time working on tasks each evening.

The class teacher may contact parents to discuss aspects of progress to ensure all pupils achieve their full potential.

Formal Parents Evenings are held throughout the year.
