Headmaster's Welcome

It is clear that an education which enables children to explore and make the most of their potential whilst preparing them for an ever-changing world is vital.

The style of education delivered at Austin Friars, driven by a deep understanding of each child, does exactly that and more – strengthening our position as the leading independent day school of choice for those based in the North West of England and South West of Scotland.

Friendships and memories are core pillars of an Austin Friars education, and our offer allows pupils to strengthen their relationships in areas which interest them and align with their skills. Whether that’s on the sports field or stage, in the music hall, or within our art and design department, everything we do helps to lay the foundation stones of confidence, resilience, and aspiration for pupils to build upon in their futures.

We are dedicated to nurturing the individuality of each pupil while helping them discover and develop their talents and passions.

Children at Friars are confident and at ease, meaning they can face challenges head-on with the assurance that they will always have the support of their friends and teachers.

Our contemporary style of education is based upon traditional Augustinian values which have been central to the school’s teachings since its inception. Following the principles of unitas, veritas and caritas (unity, truth and love) allows pupils to understand their own value as members of the community and lead to respect for those within the school family and beyond.

These values most certainly do not come at the expense of ambition, competition, drive or willingness to achieve, as our pupils support each other and stretch themselves to ensure that they compete in their fields at the highest levels.

Supported by committed and talented professionals who understand both the responsibility and privilege of educating children to go on to be successful, happy and well-rounded adults, Austin Friars is a school that treasures childhood and takes great pride in the young adults that move on to the next stage of their lives after school.

We hope that our website will give you a further flavour for our school and the ‘family feel’ that underpins our education.

If you have not yet visited, I would be delighted to welcome you here and give you a tour of our school.
