Working alongside expert caterers and nutritionists at Thomas Franks, pupils enjoy a hand-picked selection of healthy and nutritious meals to choose from each day.
Since 2022, Thomas Franks has played a key role in providing an outstanding service for the whole community while ensuring that pupils enjoy freshly prepared food.
Using fresh and seasonal ingredients, Thomas Franks is a family-owned contract caterer with a global reputation for serving exceptional food made from locally sourced produce.
Chefs and professionals work alongside their in-house nutrition team to curate menus that meet rigorous standards of quality and nutritional value, while understanding each pupil’s individual needs and allowing them to make positive food choices - regardless of preferences, allergies, or dietary requirements.
From national holidays to internal celebrations, Thomas Franks work with staff at Austin Friars to offer special themed days – featuring localised choices and delicacies for pupils to sample and enjoy.
The ‘refs’ areas are split into three and branded as their respective Senior School houses; Clare, Lincoln and Stafford. Pupils select their food before eating and socialising with their Housemates during lunch time.
The tuck shop provides a range for pupils to enjoy during their morning break (from 11:25am), with options rotating on a daily basis.
The catering team at Austin Friars has access to an extensive support network which includes development chefs, culinary directors, nutritionists and sustainability experts.
Once per term, pupils are invited to share their thoughts and feedback regarding food options directly - with the Catering Manager and Head Chef in attendance. This has proven to be a successful method of delivering feedback directly to the relevant staff members, who then escalate all issues raised and take further action if required.
The catering team adapt their menus throughout the year to take advantage of fresh and seasonal ingredients, ensuring that pupils enjoy dishes at their best quality and flavour, while also supporting more sustainable and responsible sourcing.
